I guess it's true, you go around colonising 20/14ths of the world and it's gonna come back round to bite you.  England have the uncanny habit of following up success with immediate and shocking failure.  66 world cup? Lose to scotland the next year (and never win a single trophy again).  2003 rugby world cup?  Lose everything to everyone everywhere. yippie!  2005 ashes?  Entire team gets drunk for 4 months and appointed knights of the round table only to lose to our anti-podean cousins in a specatacular 5-0 whitewash.  Our first lose of such magnitude since 1920-something.

 

That's really embarrassing.  I guess pink floyd were right when they said 'desperation is the english way.'  That's especially true in sports.  Although sometimes I like to think we lose on purpose just so scotland won't feel so bad.

 

But there's still one thing dreary engerland, with her dirty rivers flowing through asbo ridden villages, is miles above the sun-tanned, overachieving aussies and that's in music.  So i'm switching off the tv and putting on the headphones.  Oh, and we're still the best at darts.
