    January 19

    twee liih citee

yaay! it's the best song, quite possibly, of 2007, which i stumbled across in early january of 2008, naturally.  Bit slow on the upswing these past few months.

Anyway, here it is, the absolutely stunning - in that sort of it's 1983 and, i don't have a job, and I'm somewhere between sad and angry coz magret thatcher has just burned my village and my family has the black plague, but all i really want is a big baby blue cadillac - Glasvegas.     Daddy's Gone

I couldn't understand it either.  Something about a 'oh oh, havell as my ear oh?  ... oh oh and future makes me laugh ... a filthy hero a mess ...kickup for a laptop....oh dear why...this cat dude, your wife?  I won't be the only one, sad on my own sad, a fifty hero sad on his own sad.  forget your daddy's gone ....oh ooh oooh lalal lala  oooh lalalala  ohoooh.'

These are the real words, apparently.

how you are my hero / how you're never here though
remember times when you put me on your shoulders / how i wish it was forever you would hold us
right now i'm too young to know / how in the future it will affect me when you go
you could have had it all / you, me, and mum y`know / anything was possible

i won't be the lonely one, sitting on my own and sad
a fifty year old reminiscing what i had

    forget your dad, he's gone

all i wanted was a kick-a-bout in the park / for you to race me home when it was nearly getting dark
how i could've been yours and you'd be mine / it could've been me and you until the end of time
do what you want, when you want / be as insincere as you can
what kind of way is that to treat your wife
to see your son on saturdays, what way is that to live your life?

i won't be the lonely one, sitting on my own and sad
a fifty year old reminiscing what i had

    that's awfully large print.

and this is the greatest 'new' singer in my collection.  A sparkling gem from amongst the rubble of grunge.  A truly iconic voice.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Mark Lanegan.  House A Home
And he's done some new stuff with Soulsavers.  I like it, especially Kingdoms of Rain, which I'm too lazy to link to, but it's there if you look for it.
