July 08 the thing about cars (and phones)On friday I took my hitler hearse in to get a sorely needed alignment. To kill time I had a browse around the forecourt. I asked the dealer where the Honda Fits were and it turns out those things are going faster than free beer on friday. There's even a two month waiting list. Now I know all about their fold flat rear-seats, and I could put up with the cheap feeling plastics, even the rear drum brakes, but when I heard the price of this car I very nearly punched the dealer. 15k will buy you a lot of car, just not at the Honda dealer.
So I walked back to the vw corner and let my recently developed hatred of volkswagen square up against the best they had on offer. The formidable Golf (er, Rabbit) GTI. What a nice car, really it is. The dealer understood this is a car to be thrashed, and I duly obliged as best I could without going upside-down through a cornfield. However, call me an old miser, but 24k is too much to pay in my books - even if it does handle as precisely as jedi mind control. No thank you, I'll opt for an aged Focus and get real bang for the buck.
The other big news is Apple's iphone. Which should actually be called Apple's totally-stupid-not-that-innovative iphone. Apart from being able to use more than one finger on the touch pad at once (ie pinch to zoom) who cares about the iphone?? Apple's used to be cool. Now they're just too cool to be, erm, cool. Right now HP is making cooler computers. And in phones LG matches Apple while S.E. blows them away.
Yes, after 3 happy years with my sony-ericsson t610 (coz the joystick stopped working :-s) I'm now upgrading to the understated magnificence of the k750i. http://www.mobile-review.com/review/sonyericsson-k750-en.shtml
it's practical. it's beautiful. and it doesn't make you look like an apple customer. July 01 night shiftAs I am wide awake now at 1:00pm I thought I'd take the opportunity to state just how crap working nights is. I will be dead tonight at work unless I pump myself full of cold water, caffeine, sugar pills and other stuff like that. And then we have days like wednesday when I woke up at 8 o clock at night, stayed awake all night. and was awake all day thursday as I got my car fixed and took my gran shopping. Get home around 4.30 and at some point fell asleep on the sofa (spooky, i fall asleep and don't know it these days ...until i wake up of course) slept through my alarm and woke up at 8.00pm --- so i missed the meeting and was stuck awake all night ---and then had to take sleeping pills to go to sleep the next morning.
It's crap and I don't recommend it.
Guess I'll go play some sudoku and wonder what it's like to have a normal schedule. :-S |
