September 22 the hamsterSeptember 13 sad, sad dayIt's been a very dismal start to the season and it only seems to be getting worse. Nevermind the early fears over the fellow rent payers going bust, or the utter lack of off-field progress. Town have had a shockingly poor run and with tonights loss to alty compounding things to the point where rumours are rife that our dear Chris Wilder is out the door.
Wilder was, in my mind, the one rallying point. Taking us to the playoff final last season was one of the greatest feelings ever. Sure he took a few mis-steps, but don't they all, especially when they're new to management?
If Wilder goes Town will have lost the last person with any conviction or determination. Put frankly, we'll be doomed. September 11 bellyachesWas getting ready for the meeting yesterday, just about to hop in the shower, get changed and head out, when I was hit with a wave a sleepiness. Not uncommon; shut the eyes for a minute or two, wake up and smooth sailing for the rest of the morning. Not this time though, I was down and out all day straight through.
So I've topped up my medicines and silly pills and will be altering a few things. No point getting ahead of things if you're just gonna collapse by the wayside. More time for chilling out is on the books. Which I guess I'm happy about :-s
Enough of this blogging business. I'm gonna watch top gear and go back to bed. September 08 The Academic And The IdiotI was thinking back fondly to a few days ago (remeniscing in the modern age covers a shorter timespan) when a co-worker and myself were discussing the ACT test, which I haven't a clue if I've ever taken. After analysing my study habits and approach to school, she stated that she doubted I'd crack a 20 (the avg. being 22, hers being 25 and the other girl hit a commendable 35).
Thank you very much. At first I think I took offence to this - mostly because that's a knee-jerk reaction I have to everything said to me or about me. (Insults are wrong, and compliments are patronising.) I remember doing a tidy job of the SATs, and my grades were above average even though I rarely applied myself to it. But I don't know that I necessarily disagree with her assessment.
I pointed out that some of the smartest people are idiots. Johnny Cash, for example, came from the South so was inherently, hmmm, dim. But there's an undeniable genius to his simplistic melodies and musings. He has a thorough understanding of emotions and interaction- a human wisdom. Then of course there are the businessmen and inventors who are illiterate etc, for example.
Somehow academic smarts get the credit as being the standard, the be all and end all of intelligence. But what do test scores prove? Very little except the retaining of knowledge, and the application through a fixed medium. Which I don't think is a strong suit of mine. But I've always prefered thinking to knowing. Thinking is motion, it builds up momentum. Knowledge sits stagnat if not used.
That is probably the most idiotic thing ever written. But it sounds clever so I'll stand by it.
Perhaps intelligence is a matter of perception. Perception is relative (maybe, I'm just rambling at this point) and can therefore be manipulated (heh, i guess?). The academics have successfully manipulated the minds of the, umm, masses - the thinking median? - and the 'thinking' people have permitted this just so we can come in later and show them up, making ourselves not only look smart, but clever too, and more so than the academics. And that really is a load of nonsense. Which really is genius. We've taken a non-entity, a falsehood (the excellence of our intellect) and made it appear to be reality. Now that's clever. September 05 The Brixton Lighthouse BroadcastWell I was going to do it all for free, and perhaps still might, but having seen how (relatively) cheap it is to pay a cluster royalty fee each month ($20) I might just go ahead and make a few dollars on the side - or at least enough to balance the books.
So as we get closer to the first broadcasting day (no specifics set) it's down to the fun stuff of working out a programme schedule. Had wanted to do an occasional full album run-through - but the radio laws say you can't play more than 4 songs and no more than 3 in row from one artist in any given 3 hour period. :-S
Here's what we've got so far:
HTAFC 606 style fan phone in: wknds? post match? 30 mins, 60 mins??
Sport news: I can do that one - just click over to the bbc or espn and read whatever looks interesting. 5 mins? every hour?
French Music Hour: I'm crazy about french music these days. I could give a whole hour to it once a week.
Possibles:
regional music hour: london, manchester, yorkshire, n.ireland, new york, california, detroit. etc
Rugby news & fan phone in: an hour a week. they're not that bright - might be too much for them. then again they've got a proper online shop.
Asian Music hour/night: love that stuff. why not
Sport in Calderdale: a look at the other sporting activities around halifax - focus on the small cricket clubs, and the r.u. club
That should be enough really. All the other times I can be simply broadcasting music tracks willy-nilly.
Cost:
Royalties - $20-30/mo
Server - $30/mo
mic - $20
software - $40
website - 8/mo
